Parrox Hall Music Festival

connie lush coming to Parrox hall for the festival of music

Britain’s leading female blues singer will join Lancashire favourites The Houghton Weavers and other folk, jazz and classical groups for a sparkling summer concert in the gardens of Parrox Hall in August.

Connie Lush (www.connielush.com), who has been voted the UK’s top female blues vocalist for five years running, will sing for an hour during ‘The Parrox Hall Music Festival,’ Over Wyre’s new summer music event.

Lancashire’s favourite folk band, The Houghton Weavers (www.houghtonweavers.com), will open the festival with a repertoire including their own hits and old favourites from Lancashire, Scotland and Ireland.

The festival programme includes a selection of folk, jazz, classical, blues and brass, with local groups rubbing shoulders with bands from outside the area. Over Wyre’s own jazz band, The Wyre Levee Stompers, will be joined by one of the North West’s most promising new jazz groups, The Laura Manship Jazz Trio, featuring students from the Royal Northern College of Music.

Preston’s Company of Voyces will sing a selection of classical songs and The Marton Gilbert and Sullivan Society will provide some rousing choruses and light opera.
Festivities will be concluded in ‘Last Night of the Proms’ style by Over Wyre’s award-winning Pilling Jubilee Silver Band (www.pillingband.com).

Local gastro-pub the Cartford Inn will offer a barbecue of delicious local produce and a beer, wine and champagne bar. Luxury hampers can also be pre-ordered by anyone who wants to enjoy a top quality picnic.

The organiser of the festival, Harold Elletson of Parrox Hall, said:

“In the past, there were numerous festivals, fetes and pageants at Parrox in the summer, not to mention the local gala, which was also held here. This festival sees a return to that tradition and I am delighted that so many top musicians have agreed to take part. I hope people will enjoy picnicking and listening to some great music. The Parrox Hall Music Festival is something everyone can enjoy and a fun day out for all the family.”

The Festival of Music will take place on the 16th of August, from 2.00pm to 9.00pm (gates open at 12.30).
